Scots holidaymakers have been urged to reconsider their favourite destinations in 2025 after travel experts released a list of places to avoid. Tourists have been told of 15 places they should steer clear of when taking their annual holiday.

The experts at Fodor released their annual No List, which recommends holidaymakers stay away from destinations including Agrigento in Sicily, British Virgin Islands, Kerala in India, Kyoto and Tokyo in Japan, and Oaxaca in Mexico, reports Birmingham Live.

And they have issued a warning over the popular North Coast 500 in Scotland too, stating roads have become 'congested with traffic increasing the frequency of accidents' and reports of issues with people wild camping and leaving their rubbish and even human faeces in their wake.

Also on the list are perennial hotspots enjoyed by Scots every year. European destinations including Barcelona, Majorca, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Venice and Lisbon are highlighted, as protests continue to sweep the hotspots amid overtourism.

The Fodor list is warning holidaymakers about overtourism in these locations. "These places are popular for good reason - they're beautiful, fascinating, and culturally significant. But some of these sought-after tourist spots are buckling under the weight of their own fame," it warned.

"But we do believe that acknowledging the problem is the first step towards solving it. The No List serves to highlight those destinations where tourism is putting unsustainable pressure on the environment and local communities. These issues need to be addressed. That way, the world's favourite destinations can remain so for future generations."

Koh Samui, Thailand, Mount Everest, British Virgin Islands, Bali. Indonesia and Kyoto in Japan were also listed. Fodor said: "The destinations featured on the No List deserve the fame and adoration they receive. They are worthy of your time and money.

"Yet, the myriad challenges they face are both real and urgent. Fodor does not advocate for travel boycotts – they harm local economies and fail to bring about meaningful change. But we do believe that the first step to alleviating a problem is recognising there is one.

"The No List serves to highlight destinations where tourism is placing unsustainable pressures on the land and local communities. And these stresses need to be addressed. That way, the world’s favorite destinations can stay that way for the next generation."
