Scots holidaymakers to be watched by drones in Mallorca amid crackdown on tourists' bad behaviour
Holidaymakers on a Spanish island will be policed by drone this summer as authorities look for new ways to tackle anti-social behaviour. The move is part of an enhanced policing plan for the party resort of Magaluf.
It is hoped the specialist police drone unit will help officers to identify trouble and deal with it. Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual told the Mallorca Daily Bulletin the days of unruly behaviour by tourists in the resort were rapidly coming to an end.
He has, since taking office two years ago, spent money on giving police in Magaluf additional resources to curb badly behaved visitors. And he said it's seen a decline in the number of reported crimes in Calvia in the last 12 months. There has been a 75 per cent decrease.

Police will also see extra cash to have more officers on duty and there is money set aside to pay for overtime for officers. But the fleet of drones, which will be controlled from a specialist police vehicle, is not something that has been seen in Mallorca before.
The famed resort of Magaluf has long been a favourite with UK tourists but there has been a switch in emphasis there to responsible family tourism.
In May 2024 there were new laws implemented to crack down on alcohol consumption in Magaluf. This included a ban on drinking in public areas, restrictions on booze sales and stricter rules surrounding party boats.
