Around 45 million people across the UK regularly participate in the National Lottery but a new study has revealed that gamblers in Scotland actually have the highest chance of winning the grand jackpot out of the entire country.

Since its launch in 1994, the National Lottery has captured the excitement of millions with a staggering 70% of the adult population in Britain thought to be regularly entering the prize draw.

New research by Betway has now revealed which areas of the UK are home to the most lottery winners, as well as the chances of securing the jackpot based on your hometown.

The study found that South East England is home to the most millionaires, boasting 975 winners since the first lottery draw, equating to about nine in every 100,000 people.

However, due to its large population, the chances of becoming a millionaire in this region stands at 1 in 11,065.

Despite being ranked fifth in the chart, Scotland tops the list for the most millionaires per 100,000 people with 13 in total. Scots are also offered the best chance of winning, with one in 7,988 chances of striking it rich.

Above it, Midlands came in at second place with a total of 934 millionaires (in 100,000 people) while London was third with a total of 822 millionaires (9 in 100,000 people).
