Scotland snow maps show where flurries will hit ahead of 570 mile blizzard

Winter is not over as Scotland is set to be covered in the white stuff next week. New weather maps show that February does not mean it is time to ditch the hats, scarfs and gloves.

Following the destruction of Storm Eowyn, the country is set for more unsettled weather. The first hit of snow is predicted to hit the west of Scotland this Thursday, and a chilly weekend is to follow, with bone chilling lows of -4C in some parts of the Highlands.

A 570-mile stretch of the snow blitz is predicted to take over the UK next week, and the frozen crystals will fall the hardest in the Argyll and Bute as well as the Highlands, with Glasgow also being affected. The first blast of snow is set to hit the west of Scotland this Thursday, January 31, with Fort William taking on most of the chilly frost.

The latest weather maps from WX Charts, which uses Metdesk data, indicate that the snow will start to fall early on Wednesday February 5, before blanketing central Scotland by the evening. Upto 8cm is expected to fall over Strathdon and surrounding areas, while low temperatures will dip to a freezing -1C, as the snow flurries take over the night sky.

Rain is also set to take over southern Scotland, along with the north of England and Northern Ireland. The weather is nowhere severe as Storm Eowyn, which recorded 100mph winds and torrential rain. Currently there is no weather warning from Met Office for this snowy turn, but the national forecaster is known to issue such alerts closer to the time.

The maps show that the show and rain is predicted to settle by Thursday morning, February 6. However, those in west Scotland should prepare for more heavy rainfall on Friday, with central Scotland also being impacted.

Despite no clear prediction for next week's chilly hit, the Met Office has forecasted a frosty and rainy weekend ahead. The forecast states: "After some early frost, mostly fine on Thursday with sunny intervals. Rain moving southeast on Friday with drier interludes on Saturday, although a continued risk of rain in the northwest."
