Scotland to see 'three weeks of rain' in matter of days as yellow weather warnings rolled out
More unsettled weather is to ravage Scotland in the coming days, with several weeks' worth of rain expected to thrash parts of the country in just a matters of days.
The weekend is shaping up to be a dramatic one, with a whopping four separate yellow weather warnings for heavy rainfall up to 70mm and gusts of up to 70mph issued by the Met Office, including one for the entire country.
STV meteorologist Sean Batty predicts that on Friday alone, areas such as Argyll, East Ayrshire, Stirlingshire, and Perthshire could see as much as 70mm of rain on higher ground.

The weather expert said: "Combined with additional rainfall on Thursday and Sunday, totals could exceed 100mm in the wettest parts of the west Highlands and the western end of the Southern Uplands.
"To put that into perspective, Perthshire typically sees around 100mm of rain for the entire month of February, meaning some areas could receive three weeks’ worth of rain in just a few days."
Friday and Sunday will be the wettest days. The rain warning for Friday will last from 6am-6pm. Angus, Perth and Kinross, Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Galloway, East and South Ayrshire, and South Lanarkshire are all in the firing line.
Friday's wind warning runs from 8am-3pm and Dumfries and Galloway, and East and South Ayrshire are expecting downpours. Other particularly wet spots will include the higher areas of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, where around 60mm could fall. Clyde Muirshiel will be especially wet.
And in just six hours, 30-40mm could wash out other parts of the country. Rain on Sunday will cover Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Borders, East and South Ayrshire, and South Lanarkshire.
Gales also feature heavily in the weather outlook. Gusts up to 70mph are possible for a time on Friday across Arran, Kintyre, the Small Isles, and the Outer Hebrides. They will arrive again on Sunday, extending to the Northern Isles.
In fact, Sunday's wind warning spreads across the entire country, and lasts from 6am-6pm. And a rain warning is also in place in the south west from 7am until 3pm the same day.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: “The weather will be turning milder for much of the country from Thursday, but this transition heralds the start of some potentially more impactful wind and rain.
"While Thursday will see blustery winds and rain for many, it’s Friday when we could see more impacts. Southwest Scotland will see the strongest winds on Friday... possibly around 70mph on exposed coasts and around 60mph more widely within the warning areas.
"Rain is an additional hazard, with 30-40mm likely in parts of Scotland over a six-hour period, and up to around 70mm possible over higher ground within the warning areas.”
Friday's warnings throw up possible travel disruption, dangerous conditions near coasts and power cuts. On the flip side, temperatures may peak at 16C on Friday in the southeast, which is above average for the time of year.
“While Saturday should provide respite for many, Sunday will see more wet and windy weather sweep east across the UK," Mike went on. "There could be further warnings on Sunday as details are firmed up in the coming days.”
