Scarlett Johansson is set to feature in and executive produce a new Prime Video thriller series.

An adaptation of John Katzenbach's 1992 novel of the same name, Just Cause marks the Marriage Story actress' first lead TV role and has had a straight-to-series order (via Deadline).

The book's story follows Miami burnt-out reporter Matt Cowart, who receives a letter from a death row inmate claiming to be innocent. In the upcoming series, Scarlett will play a character named Madison "Madi" Cowart, a gender-flipped version of the original protagonist.

This isn't the first adaptation of the story, with Scarlett having appeared as Sean Connery's character's daughter in the 1995 movie of the same name. The film also starred Laurence Fishburne, Ed Harris, Blair Underwood, Ruby Dee and Kate Capshaw.

Christy Hall, best known for Netflix's short-lived supernatural teen drama I Am Not Okay With This, will write the series. She's also served as a consulting producer on AppleTV+'s Servant and will work on director Damien Chazelle's (La La Land, Babylon) next project.

Just Cause is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Scarlett's production company These Pictures.

As for Scarlett's next roles, the Black Widow actress will next be seen in Wes Anderson's star-studded Asteroid City opposite Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum and more of the filmmaker's frequent collaborators. The film will also star Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie and Stranger Things' Maya Hawke.

Set in 1955, the film will follow a group of students and parents gathered at a stargazer competition held in the American desert. The film doesn't have a release date yet.

Just Cause is yet to receive a release window.
