Save time (and your hands) with this cordless electric box cutter, down to $35
Break down that mountain of cardboard easily and safely: 'It has completely changed the way we recycle.'
My wife, daughter and I live over a thousand miles away from the rest of our family, so when it comes to gift-giving, there's a lot of shipping involved, and a mountain of boxes for me to break down come Christmas. Traditional box cutters do the job, but only barely; the blades get sticky whenever they come into contact with tape and dull quickly; plus, they're not the safest tool out there. Worx ZipSnip Cordless Electric Scissors, on the other hand, will make quick work of all of your boxes, no matter how tall the pile. And right now you can snag this handy tool at a $10 discount.
Powered by a rechargeable 4-volt battery, this cutter can stay charged for months.
Why is this a good deal? 💰
Spend more than 10 minutes breaking down boxes and you'll wish you had something like this to power through the hard work for you. These electric scissors are only $35, which is $10 off, but over $15 cheaper than similar tools from brands like Ryobi.
Why do I need this? 🤔
Have you ever tried cutting up a stack of cardboard boxes with scissors? Your hand will be sore before the first box hits the recycling bin. The 4-volt battery powering the ZipSnip takes on the brunt of that task for you, gliding through cardboard with ease.
Our tech guru, Rick Broida, got his hands on this "pizza cutter on steroids" for a full review and had this to say: "You can have this back when you pry it out of my cold, dead, guard-protected fingers." (How's that for a recommendation?) "I found it almost fun to carve up all that cardboard."
Broida continued on to say that "using the tool couldn't be much simpler: Press the safety-lock button and then squeeze the trigger, which is appreciably long so you can hold it with your whole hand, not just a single finger. Then just slide the ZipSnip along whatever you want to cut, as long as it's no thicker than a quarter-inch — the maximum depth allowed by the blade guard."
My hands have seen their fair share of damage from box-cutting, from both the blades and the cardboard. Not so with the ZipSnip. The guard that protects your fingers from the blade also shields you from whatever you're cutting. Speaking of, cardboard isn't the only thing the ZipSnip slices and dices. It can handle carpet, rigid plastic packaging (the bane of all parents' existence come Christmas), fabric and wrapping paper. The blade even sharpens itself as it spins around.
What reviewers say 💬
Nearly 11,000 reviewers have given the ZipSnip a five-star rating.
Pros 👍
One five-star reviewer uses this for the same exact reason why I bought one: biweekly recycling pickup. "Our town only picks up recycling every other week. This really hinders at times our ability to recycle all the things because boxes build up," they said. "Even though we break things down, this tool helps in really taking everything apart with ease. Little effort goes into completely taking hard diaper boxes down to super flat pieces. It has completely changed the way we are able to recycle."
Another happy five-star customer bought these after listening to their grandson. "I have used these electric scissors for over a year now," they said, adding that it still "holds charge and still cuts through my cardboard boxes like butter. My grandson thinks that this rotary cutter is simply the best ... And I, of course, listen to my 7-year-old grandson."
One southpaw reviewer had this to say: "It fits comfortably in the hand and is lightweight, making it easy to maneuver. I am left-handed and sometimes cutting tools are more geared toward right-handed people, this little thing works perfectly! The one-touch button to operate it is simple, and the safety feature ensures it won't run accidentally. I was able to cut through thick fabric and cardboard with ease, saving me time and effort compared to using traditional scissors. Also safer than a knife or scissors."
Cons 👎
Some ZipSnip users found the grip a bit awkward, like this shopper: "Cuts great, just awkward to use," they cautioned, adding that you "have to push a safety button at the same time (as the trigger) which for me wasn't in the best spot."
Another five-star reviewer found the recharging time to be excessive. "To recharge after a good usage of the tool requires five hours to a full charge before you can get working again, that is with the default [charger] that comes with it."
You can use this cutter to slice through cardboard, plastic and even carpet.
