Saucony has unveiled the second iteration of its Endorphin Elite race day shoe in time for the Paris Olympic games. The Saucony Endorphin Elite 2 will be worn by Canada’s Malindi Elmore, a Saucony-sponsored athlete, during the Olympic marathon on August 11.

So far, the brand has only revealed a few details about the shoe’s technology. According to Saucony, it features an ‘innovative next-level foam’ that aims to provide a ‘super soft, bouncy and energetic feel’ while minimising weight. The original Endorphin Elite features Pwrrun HG (‘highest grade’) foam. It’s unclear whether the new foam is a totally new formulation or an adapted version of the current one.

Like the original Endorphin Elite, the Elite 2 also features a more aggressive carbon fibre plate – slotted and shaped like a fork – which works to propel you forward more efficiently.

Up top, there’s an adaptable knit tongue and a 'supportive ultralight mesh' that holds the foot to the platform, along with a moulded 3D heel counter. Meanwhile, the outsole has been upgraded with a Pwrtrac outsole to improve traction on wet surfaces.

The Elite 2 will be one of many super shoes toeing the starting line in Paris this summer. For Elmore, this will be her second Olympic marathon, having been selected to represent Canada at Tokyo 2020. The mother of two recently won the Canadian 10km Championships in 32:50 at the age of 44 while wearing the Elite 2.

For those eager to experience the new super shoe, a very limited sample will go on sale on 1 July at 15:00 BST from saucony.com/eu. Otherwise, the Endorphin Elite 2 will launch globally in spring 2025.
