Eugenie turned 31 on Tuesday 23 March, just a month after welcoming baby son August with husband Jack Brooksbank.

To mark the day, Ferguson shared a video message on Instagram, as well as throwback pictures on Twitter.

She wrote: "The joy of children. In deep gratitude for my luck in my glorious girls. Happy Birthday Eugenie."

On Instagram, she said the arrival of Spring always made her think of her second-born daughter.

Ferguson's messages came after the Queen's on the Royal Family instagram account, which included a photograph of Eugenie at Royal Ascot and a message which said: "Wishing Princess Eugenie a very happy birthday today!"

However other royal accounts have not shared messages, remaining focussed on the day of reflection, marking one year since the first COVID lockdown.

Eugenie and Brooksbank welcomed their first child in February, and are reported to have moved into Frogmore Cottage, which was Harry and Meghan's UK home, to be closer to her parents.

They shared details of their son's name as they celebrated her father, Prince Andrew's, birthday in February, and the princess delighted fans with an additional picture on Mother's Day.
