Saltburn might've come out over a month ago, but it's still all that our social media timelines can talk about. From whether Barry Keoghan is wearing a prosthetic penis in that scene to what to watch next if you loved the general vibe of the film. But now some viewers have noticed there might be a slight problem with the timeline.

In case you need a recap, Saltburn follows a boy named Oliver (played by Barry), who becomes enamoured by fellow student Felix (Jacob Elordi) at university, and embeds himself into his privileged lifestyle.

While spending a summer at Felix's family manor house in the countryside, strange things start to happen, and horrifying events begin to unfold. One of the characters who offers a bit of light relief to key scenes is Felix's mum Elspeth (played by Rosamund Pike), but fans have noticed one of her storylines might have a bit of a plot hole.

While discussing her association with some of the biggest artists during the Britpop era, like Oasis and Blur, Eslpeth reveals she "‘used to hang out with them all actually" when she was a model.

Referring to the band Pulp, she then says, "Oh, but then, of course, 'Common People' came out and everybody thought it was written about me, which was completely mortifying and ridiculous. I mean, I barely knew Jarvis [Cocker]."

Quoting the band's famous lyric "'She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge'", she continued, "It couldn’t have been me. I’ve never wanted to know anything."

Firstly, that's hilarious.

But, some fans have questioned whether the timeline is a little mixed up, as 'Common People' by Pulp came out in 1995, and Saltburn is set in the mid-2000s. While it's not impossible that Elspeth was hanging out with the Britpop performers 10 years earlier with Felix and Venetia as young children, some fans questioned the fact the song was written about a student, and Jarvis was likely younger than Elspeth is meant to be, so they wouldn't have crossed over.

Also, in the karaoke scene, Henry sings 'Low' by Flo Rida, but that song actually wasn't released until October 2007, which is the Autumn after the film is meant to be set.

One thing that director Emerald Fennell did clear up, though, was the fact the family are watching Superbad on the TV, despite the fact the film only came out in the UK in September 2007. "For those people who are concerned about timings, we decided on the day that Rosamund had a friend who was a member of the Academy who had a screener," she coyly told Letterboxd.

"So don't worry, guys. I know everyone frets about things being real, but I did do my homework!"

Sounds like the Pulp thing might actually be accurate, tbh.
