The perk of being a beauty editor is that there’s always a conveyor belt of skincare and makeup products arriving at my apartment door and office desk. This, however, means that it’s very rare that I revisit a brand more than twice, and even more rare that I ever finish and restock something. There are a few products and brands that are exemptions to this — one of which is The Outset. During InStyle’s InSider Sale, we teamed up with 12 fashion and beauty brands — including The Outset — to give you exclusive savings on top products. The Scarlett Johansson- and Kate Foster-cofounded brand is 25 percent off sitewide with the code INSTYLE25 for less than 24 more hours, so I recommend shopping ASAP.

I think of The Outset’s effective, gentle, and non-irritating products like my favorite sweater, a weighted blanket, or eating saltines, yogurt, and white rice. It’ll never lead me astray and I’ll always come out the other end feeling better than I did before. The brand has around half a dozen products, but IMO, these three are worth spending your money on during this 48-hour sale.

Smoothing Vitamin C Eye and Expression Lines Cream

The Outset’s Smoothing Vitamin C Eye and Expression Lines Cream is an eye cream that uses vitamin C and centella extract to tackle dark circles, wrinkles, and fine lines on your face wherever they may appear. The crux of this formula — and many Outset formulas — is its proprietary hyaluronic acid alternative called the Hyaluroset complex. Botanically derived, it provides moisture, retains hydration, and plumps skin.

It’s a hit among shoppers and celebrity esthetician Cynthia Franco whose clients include Salma Hayek, Kathryn Hahn, and Olivia Wilde. Franco said she likes this cream because “as soon as you apply it, it plumps out fine lines immediately.” And as for long-term results, one of the hundreds of five-star reviewers wrote, “I've been using this eye cream on the lines by my eyes and above my lips for three weeks and they are slowly getting noticeably better.”

Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum

If there is one singular hero product of The Outset’s range, most shoppers would agree that it’s the Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum. The brand’s Hyaluroset complex provides much of this serum's prowess — it moisturizes, retains hydration, smooths texture, and plumps skin. It’s complemented by a vegan form of collagen (most are animal-derived) that provides firming and wrinkle-reducing benefits. Lastly, there’s a little-known ingredient called pullulan that’s been shown to have visible lifting properties.

A shopper in their late 50s said the Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum “[is] not sticky, absorbs quickly, and leaves my skin looking refreshed, brightened, and more firm.” The shopper added that it made a “significant impact on my décolleté and neck.”

Pro tip: Scarlett Johansson says she likes to DIY her own tinted moisturizer by mixing this serum with a concealer.

Purifying Blue Clay Mask

Clay masks scare the sh*t out of me. Every single one I’ve ever tried has torn my skin apart like it’s made out of Kleenex. There is one sole exception to this: The Outset’s Purifying Blue Clay Mask. Not only did my skin not disintegrate after using this, but I’ve actually finished one and begun another jar.

It’s creamy, thick and doesn’t tighten my skin or dry it out. After removing it, my skin still feels moisturized and supple — albeit with less oiliness and unclogged pores and blackheads around my T-zone. My skin is clearer, brighter, and less decongested, but without any of the purging I typically  experience with this type of mask.

The formula also includes the Hyaluroset complex, aided by blue kaolin clay, niacinamide, and salicylic acid. Hyaluroset plays a major role here — I credit it with not feeling like a traditional clay mask, aka making my skin feel like cracking paint. The blue clay is responsible for gently sloughing away the skin and removing dead skin cells, white heads, black heads, etc. that cause congestion. Niacinamide fades dark spots and fixes bumpy, uneven texture, while salicylic acid, a chemical exfoliant, heals breakouts and reduces inflammation, redness, and pore size.

Head to The Outset to get 25 percent off the entire site through the end of today, September 27, using the code INSTYLE25. Note: The code does not apply to bundles or sets.
