Sainsbury's has expanded its Aldi Price Match Campaign to convenience stores just in time for the costly Christmas shopping period.

The supermarket's commitment has price-matched 200 'go-to' food staples with its budget German rival. According to Sainsbury's, it marks the first time a supermarket has rolled out its price-match campaign to smaller branches.

Shoppers will now be able to find a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner staples in 1,400 stores and online. Just some examples include commonly bought items such as milk, bread, butter, jam, honey, pasta, rice, salad and more.

The UK's second largest supermarket's initiative was first launched in 2021 in a bid to help offer shoppers great quality food at lower prices. It currently offers 500 own-label and branded products price-matched with Aldi in larger Sainsbury's stores.

Its latest expansion on the campaign will replace the retailer's 'Pocket Friendly Prices' scheme that debuted last year. It arrives just in time for the Christmas preparations, as many shoppers will still be looking to stick to a budget during the pricey holiday season.

Simon Roberts, Chief Executive at Sainsbury's, said: "Since setting out to put food back at the heart of our business four years ago, we’ve invested nearly £1 billion in value. Our Next Level Sainsbury’s strategy is about giving customers more of what they come to Sainsbury’s for – outstanding value, unbeatable quality food and great service.

"In our Sainsbury’s Locals, we've worked hard to offer market leading prices on essential items and popular breakfast, lunch and dinner staples. We have also refreshed our Local store layouts and rebalanced space, increasing the number of products in store by seven per cent and adding more food on the move products – the primary mission of most convenience shoppers. When you’re shopping in Sainsbury’s Locals, you can be sure of excellent value, quality and choice.
