Ryan on how he and Blake try to give their kids a "normal life"
Despite having a combined net worth of nearly $400 million — wouldn't that be nice!? — Ryan Reynolds says he and wife Blake Lively are trying to give their kids a "normal life".
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the Deadpool star opened up about how the life his four children have is very different to the "working class" upbringing that he and Blake experienced.
"We both grew up very working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, 'Oh God, I would never have had a gift like this when I was a kid', or 'I never would've had this luxury of getting takeout', or whatever."
He continued: "Then I realised that that's not really their bag of rocks to carry. They're already very much in touch with gratitude and understanding the world enough to have a strong sense of empathy."
With that in mind, Ryan said, "I try not to impose upon them the difference in their childhood to my childhood or my wife's childhood." He went on to add, "we try to give them as normal a life as possible."
Ryan and Blake — who have been married since 2012 — share four children together: nine-year-old James, eight-year-old Inez, five-year-old Betty and one-year-old Olin. Despite having no worries about the public nature of their own relationship (IYKYK), the pair have made an effort to keep their children out of the limelight. Speaking to Marie Claire in 2016, Blake said of the decision: "We knew the lifestyle we were getting into, and while it's hard, it's another thing when it's our child."
Perhaps it's no surprise then, that the pair recently revealed they will be taking a pause from their busy schedules to focus on their family in 2025. "With 2024 almost over, Ryan is signalling to his Hollywood pals that he and Blake are jumping off the treadmill, retreating to their country home for the holidays and focusing on family for the foreseeable future," a source close to the couple told Life & Style earlier this year. "It was a crazy year for both of them and they need time with their kids and time away from New York City and Los Angeles."
