Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes hinted at trouble in paradise long before their heartbreaking announcement. The former This Morning hosts, both 64, shocked fans over the weekend by announcing the end of their 14-year marriage and impending divorce, following months of rumours.

Ruth and Eamonn have been together for a total of 27 years and share a 28 year old son named Jack. In a statement, the celebrity couple expressed their determination to remain friends and keep things amicable.

It's believed that Eamonn has now moved out of their £3.2 million Surrey home in Weybridge, after a challenging year behind the scenes for the TV pair. Let's take a closer look...

Career crossroads

According to a close source, Ruth and Eamonn decided to end their relationship after quietly leading "separate lives, both professionally and personally" for two years. The insider claims that their departure from This Morning in 2020, after more than a decade on the show, significantly strained their relationship, reports the Mirror.

"Eamonn and Ruth's relationship changed when they left This Morning. They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change", the source revealed to The Sun. They added: "As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night. For the past two years they had led separate lives, professionally and personally."

Moving out

Eamonn's yearning to return to his beloved Belfast reportedly caused friction between the couple. A source revealed to The Sun: "Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he thinks of as home, but Ruth would never move. It became a bone of contention."

In a candid chat with the Mirror in 2023, Eamonn expressed his feelings about home and said: "When people ask me what I'm doing at the weekend, I tell them I'm going home. Then my wife gets very irritated by this. She says, 'This is your home'. And I say, 'No Ruth, this is where I work. This is where I have to be'."

From wife to carer

Eamonn's health struggles are thought to have taken a toll on their relationship, with his chronic back pain after spinal surgery in 2022 and a double-hip replacement in 2016 making him increasingly irritable. A friend told MailOnline: "Ruth has become more his carer than a wife. Eamonn has been thoroughly miserable."

The friend added: "In the end, it just started to get her [Ruth] down more than she could accept. She needs her own life. It's a case of her wanting to get out and enjoy herself."

There are also whispers that Eamonn has humorously remarked to pals about receiving more physical attention from his physio than from Ruth in recent times. Ruth confessed in 2022 that Eamonn's health issues had put a certain "strain" on their marriage as they navigated through the challenges as a family.

Speaking to Woman's Weekly magazine, she revealed: "I don't know how much Eamonn's mobility will improve. We live in hope."

She added: "With any care situation - and there are millions of carers in this country - it isn't always easy."

ITV fallout

Speaking about Eamonn's ITV fallout, Ruth was seemingly "mortified" by the entire situation when Eamonn and herself were let go from This Morning in 2021. This also followed an incident where Eamonn publicly debunked the theory suggesting 5G causes Covid-19.

In retaliation to his abrupt exit, he fired back at TV directors labelling them 'hypocritical'. A close mate of Ruth allegedly told the Mail: "The whole thing was pretty embarrassing for her. The fallout with ITV bosses proved hugely awkward for Ruth, who remained an employee with her role on Loose Women and other shows. It left her feeling very angry and, of course, prompted fears that his outbursts could damage her career."

During the TRIC Awards in June 2023, when Eamonn was recognised as the best breakfast show presenter for GB News, Ruth was conspicuously absent. An insider reportedly shared with Mail Online: "That was a real moment for Eamonn," while mentioning: "But Ruth wasn't there as he hauled himself to the stage on a walking stick in front of friends and industry colleagues. At that moment all of the rumours that had been swirling began to make sense. She was with him at the year before."

Social media silence

This is not the first time that the couple's absence has been noticed, as they have not shared any photos together on their public social media platforms for over a year. The last time Ruth posted a picture of Eamonn was during their anniversary in June 2022 where she penned: "Happy Anniversary my love @eamonnholmes. Loved you then, love you still, always have, always will."

Since then, neither of them have publicly extended anniversary or birthday wishes online.
