Ruth Jones considers huge career change as she details TV ambitions away from Gavin and Stacey
Best known for playing Nessa and co-writing the hit BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey, Welsh star Ruth Jones has revealed her ambitions away from the show. There is currently a lot of excitement around Gavin & Stacey as fans eagerly await the Christmas special, which has been confirmed as the last-ever episode of the series.
Appearing on the rugby-based chat show, Jonathan, hosted on S4C by former rugby union and rugby league player Jonathan Davies, speaking in Welsh Ruth explained she was a Welsh learner and wanted to become so fluent in the language that she could have her own drama on S4C. She said: "An ambition of mine is to do something in Welsh on S4C, a drama. I was on Pobol y Cwm (a Welsh drama on S4C) but it was as Ruth Jones. I want to play a dramatic character."
Ruth then went on to impress as she said Nessa's iconic "What's occurring?" catchphrase in Welsh on the show. Earlier in 2024 Ruth also spoke about a different career change, retraining as a wedding registrar.

“At one point, I was going to be a solicitor, but now I'd like to be a registrar, and I've been thinking a lot about actually doing it," she said in an interview with Good Housekeeping Magazine. “I love weddings, but I've been to so many where the registrar has talked in a monotone voice throughout and hasn't looked up once - and it's such a shame because it's someone's big day.”
Ruth continued: “I'd love to be able to make those experiences more enjoyable for people.” You can read more, here. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.
