Royal tour: Prince Harry reveals that he’s hoping for a baby girl

Prince Harry has admitted that he’s hoping for a baby girl when the Duchess of Sussex gives birth next spring.

The Duke of Sussex was attending a cycling event as part of the recently launched Sydney Invictus Games when he revealed his wish for a daughter.

After helping a competitor in a wheelchair mount a curb, a spectator called out to Prince Harry saying: “I hope it’s a girl”.

The duke then turned back to the well-wisher with a smile, saying: “So do I”.

Prince Harry attended the event on his own after Kensington Palace announced that the Duchess of Sussex would be cutting back on her schedule during the couple’s 16-day royal tour.

According to royal sources, Prince Harry is encouraging the duchess to “pace herself” during the tour as she’s started to feel tired.

If the duke and duchess do have a daughter next year, then there’s a strong possibility that she won’t be granted a royal title.

While the enactment of the Succession to the Crown Act by the Queen in 2013 meant that succession to the crown would no longer be determined by gender, the same doesn’t yet apply for all titles in the peerage system.

This means that for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, only a son would be able to inherit the dukedom.

However, this could all change in the near future, thanks to a challenge being made against the law in the European Court of Human Rights.

Prior to her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan revealed that she’d purchased a special heirloom that she plans on giving “to my daughter one day”.

Speaking to Hello! magazine in 2015, the duchess explained that she’d bought a Cartier French Tank watch after finding out that her TV show Suits had been renewed for a third season.

She had the watch engraved with the message “To M.M. From M.M,” to mark the significance of buying the watch as a gift to herself.
