Rockhopping For Joy! Picture-Perfect Penguin Chicks Hatch At Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium has two new adorable feathered arrivals in the shape of two southern rockhopper penguin chicks. The dynamic duo hatched just days apart on 18 June and 20 June, and are already thriving under the care of their parents. The young birds, currently weighing nearly three pounds, are growing rapidly. One chick is being raised by first-time parents Bosco and Tussock, while the other is under the care of Edward and Annie. This happy event also means that rockhopper old boy, Wellington, a long-time resident penguin at Shedd, has a new grandchick. To support the new parents, the Animal Care team is providing supplemental food throughout the day. This ensures the parents have sufficient energy and plenty of food to nourish their chicks. The first few months are critical for the development of young penguins, and the Animal Care team is monitoring the new arrivals closely, remaining cautiously optimistic about their progress.
