Robert Redford and Wife Sybille List Stunning Coastal Calif. Home for $4M to Spend 'More Time in Santa Fe'
The legendary actor, 88, and his wife, Sybille Szaggars Redford, bought the tranquil Tiburon home in 2020 for $3.1 million
Robert Redford is letting go of his tranquil Northern California home.
The legendary actor, 88, known for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Horse Whisperer, originally purchased his four-bedroom home in Tiburon, Calif. with his wife Sibylle Szaggars Redford, 67, back in 2020 for $3.1 million, according to public records.
“Sadly, we are not able to spend as much time in Tiburon as we would like, as we are now spending more time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Sibylle has been creating new art there and focusing on her fine art gallery, Sibylle Szaggars Redford Fine Art,” they shared in a statement to PEOPLE.
The pair also cited their work with a special nonprofit there as a reason for the move. "The two of us are devoting a great deal of time to the nonprofit organization, The Way of the Rain, also headquartered in Santa Fe, which produces educational and artistic performances to protect the environment and promote global conservation efforts," they said.
“We were immediately struck by the warmth of the home with its light-filled rooms,” the couple said in a statement shared with PEOPLE of the coastal cottage they remodeled.
The 2,824 sq. ft. split level, built in 1968 sits on just a .2 acre lot surrounded by towering coastal redwoods at the end of a secluded, unpaved cul-de-sac, the privacy of which initially drew the Redfords to the property.
Overlooking San Francisco Bay, the house boasts views of Keil Cove, Angel Island and Raccoon Strait and is nearby local trail heads, secluded beaches, bike paths and sailing facilities,
The home features a bright "great room" with high ceilings, skylights and a gas fireplace, as well as a chef’s kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, a breakfast nook and a walk-in pantry.
The layout is also designed to emphasize seamless indoor-outdoor living, with over 1,000 sq. ft. of south– and east-facing terraces to enjoy the natural surroundings.

During their time in the home, the Redfords focused on cultivating Mediterranean-inspired outdoor rooms, adding lavender, jasmine and succulents.
"We love spending time outside," the couple said. "So we improved the outdoor terraces and gardens, creating more of an inviting flow between the home’s indoor and outdoor spaces."
The couple also noted their fond connection to the town of Tiburon, where they mentioned they have owned other homes in the past.
“We have a long history with and great affection for the town of Tiburon,” they shared. “We’ve always loved that one can walk to most places—not only stores and restaurants but also hiking trails in the nearby open space."
"The town’s promenade, which has wonderful views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, is a favorite spot of ours. It has a friendly vibe, and we enjoy walking the path and exchanging greetings with other walkers, both people and dogs!”
Szaggars Redford also recently listed a home with sentimental ties to the early days of her relationship with her husband.
The multimedia artist, who married the film icon in 2009, listed her four-bedroom, five-bathroom home in Utah for $3,995,000, PEOPLE confirmed back in July 2024.
The property is located near Redford's Sundance Mountain Resort, where the couple met.
“This home is truly near and dear to my heart,” Szaggars Redford told PEOPLE. “It has been part of my story and a source of inspiration for my journey as an artist and an environmental activist. For years. I’ve relished in the sheer beauty of the setting, which is as serene and unspoiled as it is breathtaking.”
