Robert Redford Lists His Home in the Bay Area’s Marin County for $4.2 Million

After almost five years of ownership, Robert Redford has decided to part ways with his Marin County home in the Northern California enclave of Tiburon, about 40 minutes from San Francisco. The veteran film actor—probably best known for his roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men, and The Horse Whisperer, just to name a few—is asking a smidge under $4.2 million for the secluded spread, which he and his artist wife Sibylle Szaggars Redford acquired back in spring 2020 for $3.1 million.

Resting at the end of an unpaved cul-de-sac, the private residence is sited amid a hillside parcel laced with gardens and towering redwood trees. Built in the late 1960s and updated by the couple during their tenure, the rustic wood-shingled cottage has four bedrooms and three baths in a little more than 2,800 square feet of split-level living space rife with hardwood floors, soaring sky-lit ceilings, and picturesque views of the San Francisco Bay from almost every vantage point.

A gated entrance nestled alongside an attached two-car garage leads into the courtyard patio, which has steps leading up to a small porch and front door that opens into coastal-inspired interiors highlighted by a living room boasting a tile-clad fireplace, plus glass doors spilling out to a wraparound deck. An adjacent dining area abuts the kitchen, which is outfitted with top-tier Wolf and Viking appliances and an eat-in island, as well as an accompanying breakfast nook.

Sequestered down a hallway are four bedrooms, including one that’s been converted into an office and a primary suite that comes with a walk-in closet/dressing area and a bath spotlighted by a large rainfall shower, while the lower level holds a spacious family room that flows outside. Per the listing held by Steven Mavromihalis and Tom Fitzgerald of Compass, some furnishings and artwork that include pieces created by the sellers themselves can also be purchased separately.

Like most rooms in the home, the primary suite also has picturesque water views.

As first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, the 88-year-old Southern California native and Oscar-winning actor is selling because he is spending more time at his primary residence in Santa Fe, N.M., where his wife has been creating new art and focusing on her fine art gallery, and together they are supporting The Way of the Rain, a local nonprofit that produces educational and artistic performances to protect the environment and promote global conservation efforts. The couple also maintains homes in California and Utah, where Redford founded the Sundance Film Festival.
