Today would have been Roald Dahl's 101st birthday.

The beloved author, who died 27 years ago, published his first short story, The Gremlins, in 1943 and went on to pen a host of enduring children’s stories including James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda.

Below we've listed 16 of Roald Dahl's novels, memoirs and other books, which we rate as among his best (we've avoided short story collections and more adult works).

Take a look through the list, and vote for your favourites. The more votes each book receives, the closer to the top of the list it will appear.
