Riverside tae kwon do academy moving to Danville

May 4—DANVILLE — Eaton Academy of Tae Kwon Do, formerly located in Riverside, will move to a new location in Danville.

The academy is set to take on the new dojang, at least three times the size of the former, on Monday, according to a press release.

The 491 Ferry St. location will allow for more than one class to take place at a time. "We're looking at this move as an opportunity to expand," Master Douglas Eaton, owner of the martial arts school, said.

Eaton has been teaching classes in the Danville area for more than 37 years, beginning in the Danville Area Community Center and then out of a third floor dance studio on Center Street before moving into the Riverside studio, the release said.

Class times will remain the same on Mondays and Wednesdays, with beginning children starting at 5 p.m., advanced children at 5:45 and adult classes at 6:30 p.m. An open gym is also held on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm and a class for all ranks is held Thursdays at 6:30 pm, according to the press release

The school will also continue to host Friday night lessons in aikido, a Japanese martial art that focuses on grappling, taught by Master Palmer Cramer, the release said.

With the new space, Eaton said he hopes to begin teaching children as young as five in the Young Dragons program. "There's lots of room to expand," he said.

Anyone interested in enrolling or visiting the school can call Eaton at 570-765-1717.
