'Thou shalt wear SPF' is really the only beauty commandment that every beauty editor, dermatologist and skincare expert will preach without fail. After all, it really is the most effective way to stop lines, wrinkles and pigmentation in their tracks.

Trouble is, finding a formula that doesn't pill, leave a white caste, or lead to a breakout is a pretty tall order. In my quest to the The Perfect SPF, i've tested just about every single one going and the good news is, that are some absolute winners. Hydropeptide Solar Defense and SuperGoop I'm looking at you.

But with Trinny London having just launched a brand new SPF that's been three years in the making, will it pip all the others to the post? Read this way to find out...

There is already some serious hype around Trinny London. For those who aren't au fait, the eponymous brand was founded in 2017 by presenter Trinny Woodall, (of What Not to Wear fame) and is now one of Europe’s fastest-growing beauty brands.

Over the years, it's won a legion of fans for its no nonsense approach to make-up and skincare hybrids and as a result, has become synonymous with sell out products that sell like hot cakes and long waiting lists. Devotees go wild for the stackable pots of lip and cheek blushes, while the BFF De-Stress Serum has become a staple in make-up bags up and down the country.

While there is already a tinted SPF in the collection, Woodall has now created a standalone SPF formula that comes in a high factor 50. Speaking of its launch, Woodall said ‘as a former sun worshipper who has faced the consequences, I knew I had to create a formula you’d look forward to using, every single day. When you can See The Light, wear this.’

What is Trinny London See The Light SPF?

Formulated in Korea, this is an SPF that goes above and beyond in terms of protection because is has achieved a PA++++ rating. This means that the product offers the highest level of protection against UVA rays.

Why's that a deal breaker? Well, while sunshine is a great mood booster and is important for getting that dose of vitamin D, the bad news is that when we are over exposed, our skin becomes vulnerable to UVA rays, which are notorious for diminishing collagen levels, resulting in premature lines, reduced elasticity, and hyperpigmentation.

Then there's the UVB rays, the pesky ones responsible for burning as they possess higher energy levels sand are stronger in summer months when the sun is at its brightest. The filters used in this new Trinny London formula are photostable, meaning they have a strong resistance to energy and light. Therefore, this SPF 50+ moisturiser works diligently to fend off the nasty effects of all types of rays. That's not all. There is also white tea leaf and raspberry leaf extracts replenish moisture so that your skin doesn't dry out by mid morning.

Trinny London fans have been quick to give their verdict on her SPF, with a mix of comments.

One customer said 'I’m 62 and never used moisturiser on a regular basis. This is something else! So light and absorbent I don’t notice I’m wearing it. It has a lovely light scent to it aswell. My skin and I are happily addicted to it.'

However one reviewer had this to say, 'Love the concept and Trinny is so motivated and convincing. But I would expect no hydroxy citronellal which is a common irritant and allergy for many and also no perfume. Increasingly people find that irritating. In these times there’s no need to put these artificial components in your products.'

Trinny London See The Light SPF: A Review

When any brand has their products formulated in Korea, it's generally a sign that it's going to be a winner. K-beauty is after all, famed for its innovative formulations that blend in seamlessly and deliver the goods in terms of antioxidants and protection.

After a week of using non-stop, I have to say, I'm impressed with how slick, sophisticated and high-tech this SPF is. Not only does it sink into my skin quickly, it doesn't leave behind any white marks and best of all, it doesn't disturb my make-up, instead it sits happily underneath my foundation and concealer. I also like how it has a slight mattifying effect, which is perfect for my oily T-Zone.

My skin isn't on the sensitive side so the scent didn't bother me, if fact I was very much into the faint but pleasing aroma of liquorice. The price point isn't super inclusive, at £45 you can definitely get your SPF fix elsewhere for half the price. However, if you're a fan of the Trinny range already, you'll love this.
