Rihanna's best looks at the Met Gala through the years
As one of the most eagerly-awaited fixtures in the fashion calendar, the Met Gala is attended by only the most culturally relevant celebrities.
One of said high-profile individuals who regularly makes an appearance at the event is singer, fashion designer and entrepreneur Rihanna.
The star has been invited by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to attend the Met Gala in New York City eight times over the years, making her first appearance as a 19-year-old in 2007.
Last year, the Bajan was named co-chair of the event, and dazzled in an embellished, papal ensemble by John Galliano.
Here are all of Rihanna's extravagant Met Gala looks throughout the years:
This year, the theme for the Met Gala is "Camp: Notes on Fashion".
The theme takes inspiration from Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp'", which is widely credited for making "camp" a mainstream term.
"The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration," Sontag once explained in Partisan Review.
For those in attendance at the event on Monday 6 May, they'll be expected to maintain decorum by following a strict set of rules.
In 2015, it was reported that use of social media had been banned at the Met Gala, in order to clamp down on guests with their eyes glued to their phones for the majority of the evening.
Last year, it was revealed that a new age restriction had been enforced at the event, disallowing anyone under the age of 18 from attending.
