Rihanna reconfigures the classic cowboy uniform for 'It' girls everywhere
Denim, leather, snakeskin—these are all textiles that, worn together, scream Wild West. And while dressing like a cowboy has certainly seen a comeback over the past year (look no further than Beyoncé and Bella Hadid for proof), Rihanna just reworked the classic western uniform for It girls who aren’t quite ready to saddle up.
During a night out in Los Angeles with boyfriend A$AP Rocky on Tuesday, the Love on the Brain singer demonstrated a new way of looking at cowboy-esque clothes with her wintery date-night outfit. This involved an effortlessly cool way of wearing denim-on-denim, thanks to her buttoned-to-the-top jean jacket and matching pair of appropriately baggy jeans. She layered the look with a sweeping black leather trench coat, which—with its wide lapels, generous sampling of zippers, and belted waist—leaned more towards motorcore than cowgirlcore.
For another high-fashion twist, Rihanna rounded out the look with black-and-white snakeskin boots featuring a sharp pointed-toe and teetering stiletto heels. She rounded out the ensemble with a few more black accents, including a woven leather bag and black-rimmed eyeglasses.
There must be a lot of pressure dress up when your partner is Rihanna, but Rocky makes it look easy. The rapper, who is a style icon in his own right, held his own with a khaki double-breasted trench coat with tortoiseshell buttons, which he tied off at his waist. Underneath, he wore a white collared shirt, a maroon tie, and black slacks. He capped off the look with black aviator sunglasses and square-toed leather shoes.
