Rihanna has once again proved why she is the realest icon out there. In an interview with Refinery29 at the Rihanna x Fenty Hair Launch Party in LA, the chart-topping superstar and Fenty entrepreneur opened up about her experience of postpartum hair loss.

All too often, there’s a stark lack of conversation surrounding the unglamorous reality of childbirth, and the plethora of real-life side effects that come with it. And it turns out Rihanna was just as surprised as the rest of us when she started to lose patches of her hair periodically after giving birth.

‘I did not expect it to happen in waves,’ she told Refinery29. ‘I thought it would just happen and grow back’. However, the “Love on the Brain” singer soon realised that chunks of her hair, on different areas of her head, were falling out at various stages. ‘At that point, you’re just like alright — enough is enough,’ she joked.

Rocking her natural curls at the event, Rihanna went on to say that losing her hair postpartum actually helped her in a sense, too. ‘I also learnt to embrace that in itself,’ she says. ‘That actually made me just get a little more creative and clever with my hairstyles.’

Rihanna’s candid conversation has sparked a wave of admiration from her followers. Under the post on the Refinery29 Instagram, which has amassed over 23,000 likes, fans have praised the brave businesswoman for opening up. ‘This is what makes her relatable,’ comments one user, while another writes: ‘One thing she is gonna do is be relatable while giving us quality. The girl just can't be beat.”

We second that!
