Richard E Grant and Sharon Horgan to star in film adaptation of Everybody's Talking About Jamie

Richard E Grant, Sharon Horgan and Sarah Lancashire are set to star in a film adaptation of hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

The film reunites the original creative team behind the stage show – director Jonathan Butterell, writer Tom MacRae, composer Dan Gillespie Sells and choreographer Kate Prince – and begins shooting this month.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie follows teenager Jamie New who lives on a council estate in Sheffield and dreams of becoming a drag queen.

Grant, fresh from his Oscar nomination for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, will step into the heels of former drag superstar Loco Chanelle, while Horgan, best known for Channel 4 TV show Catastrophe, plays Jamie’s school teacher Miss Hedge.

Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire will play his mother Margaret, while Shobna Gulati will reprise her role of Ray, who she played in the original stage cast.

Newcomer Max Harwood will play Jamie, after being chosen from an open casting call. This is his first professional role.

The musical, which debuted in 2017, was inspired by the true story of Jamie Campbell and the BBC documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16.
