New research has revealed Scotland’s most dangerous areas to drive in.

Motoring website Tollwayr analysed historical data from the Department for Transport Statistics to see which areas in the country had the highest average collisions per billion vehicle miles between 2018 and 2023.

Over the five year period there were, on average, 320 collisions in Glasgow. The highest number was in 2018, with 409 collisions.

Third place goes to Dundee City where there was on average of 255 collisions recorded in the study. The figures were highest in 2020, with 350 collisions per billion vehicle miles.

The study also found the safest area to drive in. Moray saw 82 collisions per billion vehicle miles were recorded in the studied period.

M.E. Wijnmalen, CEO of Tollwayr, warned drivers about the findings. They said: “These findings highlight the importance of prioritising road safety measures, especially in areas with higher collision rates.

"While it’s not guaranteed to have a collision driving through any of these areas, you must prioritise your own safety on the road as much as anyone else’s. This is especially important with winter coming up, which is expected to drastically change certain driving experiences across Scotland.”
