The Queen is not being prepared to be evacuated should a no deal Brexit turn nasty, a Downing Street spokesman has confirmed.

Reports appeared in several Sunday newspapers claiming Queen Elizabeth II could be evacuated in the event of a no deal Brexit should disorder increase.

Last week it was confirmed Theresa May’s cabinet had discussed the possible introduction of martial law in the event of serious civil unrest but it was later pointed out there were no serious plans to put soldiers on the troops after March 29.

Reporters were told the claims the monarch could be swiftly removed from Britain were “simply not true”.

In 2015, when the thanked the nation for its kind messages after overtaking Queen Victoria to become the nation’s longest-reigning monarch, she admitted bluntly that the royal record was “not one to which I have ever aspired”.

She added: “Inevitably, a long life can pass by many milestones. My own is no exception.”

The Government is already planning a Festival of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 2022 to showcase the UK’s strengths and coincide with the jubilee year.
