Prepare for some emotional and life-affirming stories in The Repair Shop's Christmas special over the festive period.

Upholsterer-turned-TV-presenter Jay Blades will be back with his talented team of craftspeople, including Will Kirk and Dom Chinea as they restore four beloved family treasures back to their former glory – and this time they'll be taking on special restoration projects full of Christmas memories.

Described by the BBC as "an antidote to throwaway culture", the series celebrates all of the wonderful treasures to be found in homes across the country.

And now the release date for the Christmas special has been announced. Jay and the team will be returning to our screens on Christmas Eve, Sunday 24 December, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The items being brought to the barn include an incredible mechanical Christmas cake dating back to the 1940s and a Caribbean steel pan, which the team hope to make sing again just in time for a Christmas party.

We'll also witness the team swap Secret Santa gifts, which are so personal that some of the experts are left speechless.

The team had previously put out a call to the show's fans to put forward their beloved treasures for the Christmas episode. The Repair Shop's Instagram page, restorer and wood expert Will Thirk asked the public to enter their pieces for consideration in the filming.

He says: "Ho, ho, ho! Well, it's not really Christmas yet, but it will be soon. We are casting for Christmassy items at The Repair Shop.

"So, if you have anything Christmassy at home that needs fixing, please get in touch."

Alongside the video, the caption reads: Ho, ho, hoping to get that precious festive item restored? Get in touch now. Visit the website or email applications@ricochet.co.uk."

The Repair Shop Christmas special will air on Sunday 24 December at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
