The Repair Shop dropped in shock shake up - as Jay Blades 'takes step back' from the show

A huge shake up to the BBC One schedule has seen the finale of The Repair Shop dropped from its original spot. The 13th series of the hit programme began airing in April was scheduled to draw to a close on Wednesday, 5 June at 8pm

However, the last episode in the series - hosted by furniture restorer Jay Blades - will air at a much later date now. Instead, EastEnders will air in the 8pm slot on BBC One, instead of the hit soap's usual 7.30pm spot. It has been moved due to a D-Day Special from The One Show.

Hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas will be joining in the D-Day commemorations with an hour-long show kicking off at 7pm. Surviving Royal Navy Wrens will talk about their roles and a veteran will get to see an original Dakota transport aircraft.

At 8.30pm, Kirsty Young will host D-Day 80: Tribute to the Fallen. This programme will feature the 4,600 headstones of those that fell on D-Day as they are individually illuminated across the Bayeux War Cemetery to commemorate the 80th anniversary.

Due to these changes to the schedule, the finale of The Repair Shop will now air on Wednesday, 12 May at 9pm. It will mark the end of season 13, with filming for the next series having recently started in Sussex.

However, presenter Jay, 54, has reportedly been absent from filming after some tough times in his personal life. The star's uncle was murdered in March, and then it was revealed that Jay and his wife Lisa had ended their marriage.

A source told The Sun: “Jay has taken a step back and is having a break from filming The Repair Shop. His uncle’s murder in March and the breakdown of his marriage means he has decided to take some time out.”

The source continued: “The Repair Shop is carrying on without him for now and the other repairers are hard at work. People who worked with Jay said they were shocked to hear his marriage to Lisa has ended. It was not well known at all among the people who work on the show."

Jay’s wife Lisa announced the end of her marriage to The Repair Shop presenter after 18 months of marriage in a statement on 2 May. She said: "I don't know how to say this because it's still really raw. I will admit I'm crying as I type this as I can't believe this is even real.

"I hope you don't mind if I just have a few days trying to figure out my life as I'm currently in a spare room with a few essentials. I don't know what else to say. All my love, A very broken Lisa-Marie x."
