Renée Zellweger joined the growing list of celebrities pulling from the fashion archives for red-carpet appearances, and Bridget Jones fans were delighted to see the sartorial homage to the beloved British character.

The actress made her appearance at the London premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy yesterday. While the sequel — the fourth in the film series — has created a buzz of its own among loyal Jones fans, it was Zellweger's outfit which secured its own moment on the red carpet. Quite apart from Jones' 'frazzled Englishwoman' style, Zellweger arrived wearing a striking fuchsia-pink satin dress, complete with a pooling train and metallic red pointed heels.

Taking a much more subtle approach to the method-dressing trend, it wasn't just the hue of the strapless gown that nodded towards the much-loved character; the dress was an archival Pierre Balmain piece, originally shown in the autumn/winter 2000 couture collection (the year that Zellweger shot the first movie, Bridget Jones' Diary) and was subsequently pulled by the actress' stylist Petra Flannery.

The star wore her hair in a half-up, half-down curled hairstyle, which fell over one shoulder. Her make-up was kept beautifully natural, with a glowing complexion and soft pink blush that complemented the rest of her ensemble. Though her make-up artist Kindra Mann didn't specify the products used on Zellweger, she did post a photo of the Westman Atelier Blush Sticks and Tinted Highlighters to her Instagram story earlier in the day, praising a "creams on creams" technique.

The opulent satin gown was a vivid contrast to the all-black look Zellweger wore for the premiere in Paris just a few nights before, which featured a custom one-shoulder semi-sheer Saint Laurent dress constructed out of black lace with a scallop neckline.
