We love it when one of our favourite books gets turned into a movie or TV series. Now, the bestselling novel and BookTok favourite, Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, is coming to our screens very soon and we can’t wait.
The book, which was released in 2019, is an LGBTQ romance that focuses on the relationship between of Prince Henry, a British royal, and Alex Claremont-Diaz, a First Son of the United States.

A trailer for the movie dropped on 6th July 2023, and gives our first insight into the world the novel created:
The first teaser trailer for Red, White & Royal Blue was shared on 3rd July. In the clip posted by Prime Video, we see Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine as Alex and Prince Henry having a tension-filled interview. Seriously, we can’t wait to see more!

OK, be prepared to get excited as we finally have our first proper look at Red, White & Royal Blue after Prime Video shared some new images from the film.
In the new stills, we see Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine as Alex and Prince Henry for the first time. We've also got a glimpse of Uma Thurman as Alex’s mum, President Ellen Claremont and Sarah Shahi too.
Amongst the images we get a look at the developing relationship between Alex and Henry with one image of their pair holding hands. There's also a look at the famous cake-splatter scene all fans of the book will recognise.

What is Red, White & Royal Blue about?
According to the book’s publishers, the book asks the question, “what happens when America's First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales?”
“Alex Claremont-Diaz is handsome, charismatic, a genius – pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House ever since his mother first became President of the United States. There’s only one problem. When the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an altercation between Alex and Prince Henry, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.”
So, in a bid to do some damage control, the pair agree to a truce. “But what begins as a fake, Instagrammable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon they are hurtling into a secret romance that could derail the presidential campaign and upend two nations.” Can you tell why we couldn’t put it down?
Author Casey McQuiston was inspired by the 2016 US presidential election, as well as the political and blue-blooded lifestyles they consumed in HBO's acclaimed political satire series Veep, Hillary Clinton's biography A Woman in Charge and royal romances by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan.
When will Red, White & Royal Blue be released?
The movie adaptation of the bestselling book will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 11th August. So, we don’t have too long to wait!
Who will star in the Red, White & Royal Blue movie?
Taylor Zakhar Perez, who you may remember from his role as Marco in The Kissing Booth sequels, will play Alex.
Nicholas Galitzine, from the movie Purple Hearts, will play Prince Henry. It’s not the first time that Nicholas has played a prince, either, appearing in the 2021 live-action Cinderella movie, as Prince Robert, alongside Camila Cabello.
In addition to the two main characters, the cast will also include Uma Thurman (who will play Alex’s mum, President Ellen Claremont), Sarah Shahi (who you may know from Netflix’s Sex/Life), Ellie Bamber, Stephen Fry, Clifton Collins Jr., Rachel Hilson, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D. Clarke, Aneesh Sheth, and Juan Castano.
