Rebel Wilson has shared a sporty throwback photo while revealing she had designs on becoming a professional tennis player.

The Bridesmaids star, 40, posted the image of her younger self wearing tennis whites and looking focused as she prepared to hit a backhand at the baseline.

In the accompanying caption the actor revealed that she may not have become an actor at all, if one of her early career options had panned out.

"I don’t know whether you guys know but one of my original career choices was to be a professional tennis player," she wrote.

Turns out, Wilson's height may have contributed to her not quite making it to compete with the likes of Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

"I ended up being way too short (and also not good enough) but geeesh I used to love being a beast on the court," she added.

Since revealing her previous tennis playing ambitions, the actor was inundated with comments from fans encouraging her to continue to follow her dreams.

"There is still time my friend," one wrote.

"Serena Williams watch out," another added.

"I’m glad you chose acting but isn’t this where they say you are a triple threat," another fan commented. "A lawyer, actress and a tennis player. Is there anything you can’t do?"

"Imagine being smart, talented and sporty, girl really is jack of all trades," another agreed.

Picking her tennis racquet back up could form part of Wilson's dedication to a healthier lifestyle.

The actor, who recently revealed she has shed 30kg since calling 2020 her ‘Year of Health’, has been inspiring her 9.5 million Instagram followers over the past year during her mission to get healthy.

Wilson has insisted that she has been achieving her weight loss safely and sustainably through eating healthily and exercising.

This has included high-intensity workouts with her Australian personal trainer Jono Castano Acero.

In August 2020, Wilson updated fans on her progress with an Instagram post that showed her slimmer figure for the first time.

The star wrote: “Thanks for all the love so far on my ‘Year of Health’ journey – when I was reaching for the candies last night after dinner I thought to myself ‘hmmmm... better not’ and had a bottle of water instead.

“8kgs to go until I hit my goal – hopefully I can do it by the end of the year.”

The star also recently revealed a commendable body confidence trick she’s adopted during her weight loss journey.

In an Instagram post she shared a snap of herself wearing a dressing gown, with a set of scales visible in the reflection of a mirror.

In the accompanying caption the Jojo Rabbit actor encouraged fans to step away from the scales.

“Rather than step on the scale, look at yourself in the mirror and be like ‘dammmm girrrrrl... you’re smart and talented and accomplished and perfect just the way you are’,” the star wrote.

The piece of self-esteem-boosting advice went down well with social media users who left more than 180,000 ‘likes’.
