The reason Gavin & Stacey's Mathew Horne was 'nervous' about Christmas finale
Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne has described how he felt on receiving the script for the upcoming Christmas special - the final epsiode ever of the BBC hit sitcom. From its humble beginning as a BBC Three sitcom Gavin & Stacey has gone on to take the country by storm. Co-creators and stars of the show, Ruth Jones and James Corden have confirmed this will be the final episode, which has been eagerly anticipated by fans.
It has not just been the fans who are excited to see the sitcom return but also the cast which includes Mathew Horne playing Gavin, Joanna Page playing Stacey, Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb. Ahead of the last episode, Mathew has spoken about how he was "nervous" to read the script.
He said: "I want to say I was nervous about reading the script as it’s always been Ruth and James’ priority to get the script perfect in the first instance.

"To tell a story the right way. And I had no evidence to suggest that this final script wouldn’t adhere to those principles and be anything other than brilliant.
"I did have a nervous compulsion to read it immediately and my expectations were exceeded. It made me laugh, it made me cry and upon completion I thought it was nothing short of a masterpiece.
"Not just in terms of an episode of Gavin & Stacey, but frankly any script I’ve ever read. I immediately took to our WhatsApp group to say as much!

The final episode will air on BBC One at 9pm and is a feature-length episode, meaning the show will air for an hour and a half. It has been 17 years since Gavin & Stacey first began and you can see some of the best pictures from the filming of the new episode at Barry Island, here.
