While Candiace is in a smitten baby bubble now after a smooth labour, the first month of motherhood hasn't been so easy, with the star revealing that her health began to spiral downwards following the birth. "I started having these horrifying lower abdominal pains. It was so bad that I couldn't walk, I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything. And it just kept getting worse," Candiace told PEOPLE.
Despite taking painkillers to ease the agony, Candiace was also met with a fever and intense pain while breastfeeding. "I was really depressed because you have to understand: I couldn't get up — literally, I was stuck in the bed, doubled over in pain," she said of the mental toll this had. "I couldn't take care of my baby. If I didn't have a husband, me and my child would be dead because I could not do anything. I was just like a literal vegetable, laying there like a bump on a log."
After finally returning to hospital, doctors discovered a blood clot in her left ovary, prescribing Candiace with blood thinners, which have alleviated her symptoms and left her feeling lighter.
Candiace and restaurateur Chris have been together for nine years and tied the knot back in 2018, a year after Vhris popped the question, with a stunning Washington, D.C. ceremony. The couple met while working at a restaurant, where Chris was the manager and Candiace was a waitress.
She appeared on The Real Housewives of Potomac for six years before making the decision to leave the show in March after finding out she was expecting. Admitting she was 'taking a break' from the show to focus on her new chapter and responsibilities, Candiace teased that her exit may not be forever, “This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you later.’," she said at the time.
