'Real reason' Meghan Markle turned down invitation to Charles' Coronation 'revealed'

The alleged 'real reason' Meghan Markle ‘turned down’ an invitation to King Charles' Coronation has been revealed.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed at the time that the couple had received official correspondence from the palace, indicating that they had been invited to attend. However, while Prince Harry did travel from their home in California to make the occasion, Meghan Markle skipped the Coronation altogether.

The Mirror reports the real reason Meghan may not have attended is because she was 'unimpressed' by the King's response to claims made in her Oprah Winfrey interview. In 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for a bombshell tell-all interview with the US talk show host where they made allegations relating to race about the family.

Meghan alleged there had been ‘conversations’ and ‘concerns’ about what colour the Sussexes' baby would be. It later emerged that Meghan and Charles, who was the Prince of Wales at the time, exchanged letters about the incident.

The Mirror reports Meghan was not satisfied with the outcomes of these letters, and this was part of the reason she did not attend the Coronation. Sources told The Telegraph that Meghan sent a letter explaining that while she did not mean to accuse the individual involved of being a racist, she wanted to “raise concerns about unconscious bias" in the family.

The paper reports that the Duchess's letter was sent in response to correspondence from King Charles, in which he had expressed his sadness over the split within the family. However, the Duchess was reportedly ‘not satisfied’ with the King’s response to her letter.

The Royal Family did not acknowledge the allegations publicly, but during an outing Prince William was asked if the Royal Family were racist. The Prince firmly responded that they are "not a racist family". The Oprah interview came one year after Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties, after various behind-the-scenes falling out with the family.

During the interview, Meghan alleged that the firm “perpetuated falsehoods” about the couple.

She claimed royal life had taken a toll on her mental health, and that she wasn’t taken seriously when she raised these concerns.

The King is understood to be the only person who made contact with the Duchess after the interview in which Oprah was told there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born”.
