Rare Sumatran Tiger Cubs' First Moments Captured On CCTV
CCTV has captured the first moments of three newborn critically endangered Sumatran tiger cubs. Born on 17 January 2025 at West Midlands Safari Park in the U.K., the cubs arrived to their 13-year-old mother, Dourga. The newborns spent their first days suckling, snuggling, and taking blind steps, as their eyes stay closed for weeks. Keepers were overjoyed as they monitored the birth on CCTV, celebrating the arrival of all three cubs. The birth is a major success for the conservation of Sumatran tigers, a species with only around 400 left in the wild. The Safari Park supports tiger conservation efforts in Indonesia, funding patrols to combat poaching.Dourga and her cubs will remain undisturbed for eight weeks before their first health check and naming.
