Rare coins uncovered by metal detector – and they have staggering value

When looking for a rare coin in your collection, there are various details you should keep your eyes peeled for.

One of the main ones is the history of the pieces in question. While some may be tied to important events or anniversaries, others are deemed valuable if they are particularly old.

And this was the case for some metal detectorists, who recently found a haul of coins from the Saxon and Norman era. The find was an impressive one – as the treasure in question was deemed to be worth millions.

A money expert @CoinCollectingWizard spoke about the incredible find on TikTok. His said: "Treasure of coins found metal detecting estimated to be worth £5million!"

In the minute-long video, it shows the group of people with their metal detectors finding hundreds of rare coins under the ground in Somerset. They are willed on by the devices, which keep making beeping sounds above the hidden gems.

They sought advice from the British Museum, who said the pieces can be catalogued after coming from a "time where everything was different".

Since the video was posted online, it has garnered hundreds of likes and plenty of comments. One said: "Wow" and another TikTok user commented: "Amazing finds."

A third chimed in: "Lucky b*****s", while a fourth admitted: "My dad found a hoard of Roman coins, metal detecting and had to send them off, they are in our local museum now. Keep going Wizard!"
