The Queen Consort has launched a new award for volunteers ahead of the King Charles' Coronation.

The Coronation Champion Awards for volunteers seeks to recognise "a diverse group of volunteers from different backgrounds and communities across the UK from a range of causes", according to the Royal Voluntary Service website.

“I am delighted to be launching the Coronation Champions Awards with the Royal Voluntary Service, to shine a light on the herculean efforts of our nation’s volunteers”, Camilla said in a statement on the website.

“Up and down the country, millions of unsung heroes are contributing to their local communities, giving generously of their time and their talents to enhance the lives of others," she added

The announcement asks for people to nominate volunteers over the age of 14 who have overcome adversity or discovered creative ways to support their community in the last five years in eight different categories, ranging from supporting the elderly to sports, culture and heritage.

According to the website, from the nominated volunteers, a total of 500 volunteers will be chosen as Coronation Champions. These volunteers will receive a specially designed official Coronation Champions pin and a signed certificate from Camilla, The Queen Consort.

A selection of these Coronation Champions will then be given the opportunity to attend one of the official Coronation celebrations, like the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert or the Coronation Garden Party.

If you know someone who is a champion at volunteering in your local community, you can nominate them via the Royal Voluntary Service website. Nominations will close on Sunday 2 April.
