Netflix's Maid is the latest series to have us officially hooked and, in addition to the hard-hitting plot line, fans are just discovering something pretty cool about the cast.

Based on a true story, Maid follows young single mother Alex who flees an abusive relationship and finds a job cleaning houses, in search of a better life for her and her daughter.

Margaret Qualley plays the lead role of Alex, and it turns out her real-life mum, Andie MacDowell, is actually starring in the series too, suitably playing Alex's mother Paula.

The on and off-screen mother-daughter duo landed on Netflix on 1 October, with the series split into 10 emotional episodes.

Inspired by the memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive by Stephanie Land, Netflix's adaptation sees 23-year-old Alex and two-year-old daughter Maddy facing homelessness as Alex battles to turn their lives around.

While exploring Alex's abusive relationship with Maddy's father, the series also deals with Alex's relationship with her own mother, Paula, who's described as "undiagnosed bipolar" and "MIA" in the show's trailer.

Mother and daughter Margaret and Andie are seen acting opposite one another throughout the series, and this real-life-to-fiction crossover is pretty moving.

Margaret, 26, is Andie and ex-husband Paul Qualley's youngest child together, with the pair also sharing son Justin, 35, and daughter Rainey, 31.

Following in her mother's acting footsteps, Margaret and Andie have appeared at a number of red carpet events together over the years. Take a look at them together in real life:
