The current Princess of Wales, Kate, paid tribute to the former Princess of Wales, Diana, through her green ensemble at the 2022 Earthshot Prize ceremony this weekend.

For the final engagement of the couple's jam-packed Boston tour, Kate chose a bright, mint-green off-the-shoulder gown by Solace London, which she rented from the British platform Hurr. She paired the dress with a special accessory: an emerald-and-diamond choker necklace which previously belonged to her late mother-in-law.

The opulent necklace was gifted to Diana by Queen Elizabeth II, following her wedding to Prince Charles. During the pair's 1985 Australia tour, the late princess memorably wore the piece as a headband. It was paired with a teal-green one-shouldered ballgown, which featured a drop-waist and a large bow.

Diana also wore the piece again for an engagement at the Dorchester Hotel in 1993, when it accompanied a bright green column gown with wrap detailing and a subtle off-the-shoulder silhouette – a look not dissimilar in feel to the one that Kate wore this weekend.

Kate's glamorous appearance for the Friday night prize ceremony concluded the Prince and Princess of Wales' three-day trip, marking their first US visit since 2014. The princess' fashion for the tour – which was comprised almost entirely of British brands – included several elegant suits, including a sleek all-navy Alexander McQueen ensemble for the couple's arrival at Boston's Logan International Airport, and a wine-coloured Roland Mouret set paired with a pink pussy-bow blouse for a visit to Greentown Labs in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Kate also took part in a solo outing to Harvard's Center on the Developing Child, which has a relationship with her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. For the visit, the royal wore a bold houndstooth midi dress by Emilia Wickstead, paired with black Gianvito Rossi suede pumps and gold Liv Thurlwell hoop earrings.
