The Princess of Wales and the Queen Consort looked sensational in heirloom tiaras and elegant gowns when they attended a reception for members of the Diplomatic Cops at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (6 December).

Kate chose a sequin Jenny Packham gown for the grand occasion, which she paired with the late Queen Elizabeth's drop diamond earrings and the Lotus Flower Tiara. The stunning headpiece, which was worn by the princess in 2013 and 2015, was previously owned by Princess Margaret.

The Lotus Flower was originally made from a necklace given to the Queen Mother as a wedding present from her husband, King George VI, according to The Court Jeweller. It was later passed on to Princess Margaret, who loaned it to her daughter-in-law, Serena Stanhope for her wedding to Viscount Linley.

Meanwhile Camilla, who was dressed in an elegant Anna Valentine gown, chose the Belgian Sapphire Tiara, which she was seen wearing at a South African state banquet last month. She paired it with the late Queen's diamond and sapphire earrings and necklace.

In addition to their jewels, both royals wore a special accessory - a yellow ribboned brooch featuring a badge with an image of the late Queen. This is a sign that they have been honoured with the Royal Family Order as a reward for their service. The blue sash signifies their roles as members of a separate honour - the Royal Victorian Order, as noted by Town and Country at previous royal events.

The Princess and the Queen Consort joined the King and Prince William at the annual event, which welcomed hundreds of members of the Diplomatic Corps to the Palace's state rooms.
