The younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson is said to have been "snubbed" by King Charles when picking his Counsellors of State in an effort to avoid upsetting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to a royal historian King Charles decided to "snub" Eugenie when picking his Counsellors of State, reports the Express. Eugenie and her older sister Princess Beatrice are not working members of the Royal Family, although Beatrice is a Counsellor of State - a position Eugenie doesn't hold.
The role of Counsellors of State is to step into the shoes of the monarch when they are unwell or out of the country. Generally, they consist of the monarch's partner plus the next four royals in line to the throne who are over 21 years old.
So technically, the Counsellors should be Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice. Yet, given the decision by Harry and Andrew to step back from royal duties, the Counsellors of State Act 2022 advanced Princess Anne and Prince Edward to this position.
This happened even though Eugenie is further ahead in the line of succession than them. Marlene Koenig, a royal historian explained the situation to GB News. She said: "When Charles became King, he was no longer a Counsellor of State. So, according to the Regency Law, Princess Beatrice moved up to that spot.
"Technically Prince Harry should not be on it because he's not domiciled in the UK. But no, Charles does not want to upset the Sussexes. Prince Andrew, who is allegedly accused of things, hasn't been removed either."
