Princess Charlotte may have just turned five, but she has already had a starring role in three high-profile weddings as a bridesmaid. She was due to make that four recently, joining the bridal party once more as her teacher married her godfather.

According to The Sunday Times, Thomas van Staubenzee – who is a close childhood friend of Prince William and Charlotte's godfather – was due to marry Lucy Lanigan-O'Keeffe, a teacher at George and Charlotte's school, Thomas' Battersea, back in April.

Like many couples, their wedding was put on hold due to coronavirus. The newspaper reports they had planned to have Prince William as one of their ushers, and Charlotte as a bridesmaid, but when the restrictions on private gatherings, like weddings, were relaxed to allow small ceremonies, the pair married in late July with only close family present. They are now expecting their first child together.

The Cambridges' reportedly had a hand in bringing the couple together, encouraging the pair to get to know each other.

The van Staubenzee family have close ties with Prince William and Prince Harry, having grown-up and attended school together. Thomas' brother Charlie is the Duke of Sussex's son Archie's godfather, while both brothers played a part in the Cambridges' and Sussexes' weddings.

So far, Princess Charlotte has been a bridesmaid for her aunt Pippa Middleton, Meghan Markle and William's cousin Princess Eugenie.

Charlotte and her elder brother Prince George were homeschooled by the Cambridges during lockdown – with both celebrating their birthdays in isolation, too.

In an interview with the BBC, Kate admitted teaching the children had been 'challenging' and joked that 'we don't tell the children we've actually kept going through the holidays' with Catherine adding that she feels 'very mean'.
