Kensington Palace has shared an official photograph of Princess Charlotte with her brother Prince George, to mark the four-year-old royal’s first day of school.

The photograph, shared via Kensington Palace’s official social media channels, was taken shortly before the brother and sister duo left with parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for Thomas’s Battersea school, this morning.

Princess Charlotte joined her brother George today at the private London school, where he has attended since 7 September 2017.

In the photo, both children are wearing the school’s navy and red uniform.

Charlotte wears a white blouse and navy school pinafore with a button-down cardigan worn over the top. Mary Jane style shoes complete the outfit.

She has her hair tied back in a neat ponytail with a centre parting.

Prince George wears a V-neck navy jumper and a light blue shirt, with navy shorts and loafers.

Royal fans on Twitter are calling the photo “adorable” and a “precious moment”.

Princess Charlotte’s education to date

Princess Charlotte previously attended Willcocks nursery, a £14,000-a-year Willcocks Nursery School in South Kensington.

Charlotte wasn’t required to wear a uniform to nursery school and likely spent her days getting involved in the activities on offer, which included pottery, singing, dancing and music.

However, she appeared relatively unfazed as she made the transition into primary school, according to body language expert Judi James.

Commenting on Princess Charlotte’s demeanour as she headed to school for her big day, James remarked on the young royal’s confidence and ease with the paparazzi, who were on hand for a photo call.

James told Yahoo UK: “All the previous signs have suggested that Charlotte is a confident and very sociable child who is always happy to wave to the cameras, so these signals of what could look like shyness on her first day at school do appear to be prompted by playfulness rather than real diffidence or first-day reluctance.

“Charlotte looked happy to keep her mum within touching distance and even to pull back behind her as they walked across the yard but once they got to the teacher she came round to the front promptly and keenly, flicking her ponytail and performing a cheerful part-wave as she did so.”
