Princess Beatrice's heartbreak as ex-boyfriend Paolo Liuzzo dies of suspected overdose
Princess Beatrice's first love Paolo Liuzzo – who she started dating when she was just 17 – has tragically passed away in Miami.
The pair reportedly started a relationship in 2005, but now Paolo has died from a suspected overdose in a Miami hotel. According to The Sun, sources claimed he’d struggled with drugs and racked up debts over his suspected gambling.
Officer Michael Vega, of the Miami Police Department, told The Sun that police attended a room at the citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel at 3.22pm on February 7.
Liuzzo’s time of death was given as 3.34pm, as reported by the Sun. The cause has not been publicly disclosed due to Florida public records law and his death certificate states that he had been working as an art industry consultant.
Officer Vega said: "It was investigated as an overdose death. The investigation is open and ongoing."
OK! reached out to Miami Police Department for an official statement and they confirmed that the information is accurate.
This news comes just months after the princess learned her mum Sarah Ferguson had been diagnosed with skin cancer. She is one of three royals this year to receive a cancer diagnosis, alongside King Charles and Kate Middleton.
Sarah revealed she is battling an aggressive form of skin cancer just six months after undergoing a successful operation to treat breast cancer.
The Duchess of York released a statement on her Instagram earlier this year alongside a picture of herself standing next to a river, as she vowed to ‘take some time to herself’ amid her health battle.
Sarah, 64, said she is in “good spirits” and “grateful for the many messages of love and support” after announcing she had been diagnosed with malignant melanoma.
The royal penned: "I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, my second cancer diagnosis within a year after I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery
She continued: "It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was. Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support."
