Princess Beatrice gives birth! Royal welcomes second daughter with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and reveals beautiful name
Princess Beatrice has given birth to a daughter several weeks prematurely, with the 4lb 5oz royal baby, named Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, said to be healthy and doing well. The late Queen’s granddaughter, 36, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second child a week ago on January 22 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.
Beatrice and her daughter are now said to be at home, with the family enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Sienna, and Edoardo's son and Beatrice’s stepson, eight-year-old Wolfie. Beatrice was due to give birth in early spring and in December received medical advice and was told by doctors not to travel long distances.
King Charles and Queen Camilla have been informed and are delighted by the news of Athena's arrival, Buckingham Palace said. Beatrice and Edoardo released a photograph of their daughter taken by Edoardo, showing the newborn with dark hair, wearing a white long-sleeved garment, and wrapped in a pink blanket with her face hidden by her arm.

Beatrice’s husband Edoardo gushed over his new daughter, calling her “tiny and absolutely perfect”. He wrote on Instagram: “Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi.
“We welcomed baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena.
“A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”
Buckingham Palace said: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday January 22 at 12.57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.
“The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of the royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.”
Princess Beatrice’s younger sister Princess Eugenie celebrated the new arrival by posting “Welcome Baby Girl” and sharing Edoardo's picture of baby Athena wrapped in a pink blanket on her Instagram Stories.
Beatrice announced her pregnancy back in October. Buckingham Palace said at the time: "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together early in the new year; a sibling for Wolfie and Sienna. His Majesty The King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news."
