Prince William has said Kate Middleton is 'immensely jealous' of his solo tour of Namibia, Tanzania and Kenya, and it's down to a reason most busy parents can relate to.

Speaking about his engagement at a British High Commissioner's reception in Windhoek, Prince William elicited laughter from the audience as he said: 'I'm delighted to be visiting Namibia for the first time. I am only sorry that my wife Catherine is not able to join me.

'She is immensely jealous, particularly as I am looking forward to a few good uninterrupted nights' sleep this week, away from my wonderful children.'

The Duke and Duchess welcomed their third child Prince Louis back in April, and Kate has mostly been on maternity leave since then, although she has attended a few engagements and family affairs - including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding in May.

William embarked on his engagement earlier this week (Monday, 24 September) and will return on Sunday. The private working trip has been made in his capacity as President of United for Wildlife and Patron of Tusk Trust ahead of the 2018 conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade being hosted by the UK Government on 11 and 12 October.

The conference aims to strengthen international partnerships across borders and beyond government and focus on three key themes: tackling Illegal WildlifeTrade as an organised crime; building coalitions and closing markets.

The prince will also meet with key figures working in conservation as well as young people, business leaders, and mental health activists.

The Duke and Duchess are expected to attend Prince Charles upcoming 70th concert celebration in October, although Prince Harry and Meghan will be absent as they will be embarking on their Commonwealth tour.
