This is how William and Kate will be supported through Prince George's first days of school

Gone are the days of waving a child off at the gates and anxiously hoping their first day of school will be okay.

Now, as four-year-old Prince George starts school, times have most definitely changed. His new school, an independent in South London called Thomas’ Battersea, places ‘special emphasis’ on new parents, to ensure they don’t fret too much.

But rather than a pat on the back and a few consoling words, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be greeted with a drinks reception, a handbook and workshops.

These are supposed to help show parents exactly what their children will be learning, and how they can support them further at home.

After Prince George has spent a few months getting used to school, Will and Kate will be invited to watch lessons take place so they can learn how to help with phonics in the evenings.

Along with learning about traditional subjects like maths and science, Thomas’ students will also be educated on a variety of topics like ‘understanding the world’, ‘expressive arts and design’ and ‘British values’.

Fees at the school start at £17,604 for the year, and Prince George will wear the standard uniform of a navy-blue pullover, Bermuda-style shorts, red socks and black shoes.

Before the term starts, parents will be invited to an informal drinks event and will fill out a handbook with their child’s interests and favourite things.

Children born after 1 April, like Prince George, also have the option of taking half days on Tuesdays and Thursdays so they can ease their way into education first.

Although the royals don’t seem to be worrying too much about his transition into education, Kate has said she’s not sure if George “has any idea what’s going to hit him.”

And with a new brother or sister on the way, we’re not sure he’s going to like it.
