The Prince of Wales will attend England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final clash with Switzerland in Germany on Saturday, Kensington Palace has announced.

The Prince, who is president of the Football Association, will be in the stands cheering on Gareth Southgate’s team for the second time, having joined King Frederik of Denmark to watch England take on the Danes during the group stages.

The Prince’s appearance at Düsseldorf Arena will come after he declared the team’s hard-fought victory over Slovakia last weekend as an “emotional rollercoaster”.

In a personal tweet published on social media after England clinched a 2-1 win during extra time, he wrote:

The Prince, a passionate Aston Villa fan, presented shirts to the squad before they left for Germany, making a surprise visit to St George’s Park, England’s national football centre in Burton upon Trent.

He also shared some advice from his youngest son Prince Louis, who suggested the players “eat twice the amount” to secure their bid for Euros glory.

The Prince, 42, appeared delighted to be engaging in a spot of international royal rivalry as he joined King Frederi, 56, for the Denmark match, with the pair filmed engaging in some friendly banter before the match.

While his Danish counterpart dressed down in an open-necked shirt, William wore a navy suit and striped tie.

Rio Ferdinand, in the BBC studio alongside Gary Linkekar, said: “They look chilled, they look relaxed, man, shirt undone, I love that.”

The three Wales children did join their father for the match, which was on a school night, although all are understood to be football fans who have likely been watching the games on television at home.

It is not yet known whether the Prince will take Prince George, 10, to watch the Switzerland match on Saturday.

In May, he took his elder son to Wembley to watch Manchester United take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Father and son donned matching navy suits, white shirts and striped ties as they watched United eventually emerge as the victors with a 2-1 win.

They beamed as they presented the cup and medals to the winners and awarded runners-up medals to members of the City squad.
